District Attorney speaks out after Gibson Co. property declared public nuisance
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A local residence that has been connected to multiple encounters with law enforcement has been temporarily vacated.
On Friday, February 9, the Circuit Court was asked to put a temporary public nuisance injunction on 120 Eldad Road in Gibson County, just outside of Trenton.
There were two incidents that happened, one in December, and one in January, that led to this decision.
District Attorney General for the 28th Judicial District, Frederick Agee, tells us a little bit more.
“The first one happened on or about December the 10th. We had an officer involved shooting where one of our sheriff’s deputy’s got shot. The suspect was also shot, he has since been deceased,” Agee said. “Then we had another significant event on January the 10th, where two murder suspects out of Henderson County were found at this property by the US Marshals.”
Agee said that there had been approximately 15 calls for service out to this property. Before they requested the public nuisance injunction, they looked and did some research to make sure this was the correct decision.
“We took our time making sure that we had our facts straight,” Agee said. “We worked with DCS to see if there were any children in the home. We inquired about any adults that might be physically disabled, or any elderly people. We were told that none of those applied. Given the facts, we felt like this was the right thing to do.”
Agee told us that in his time as District Attorney General, he has not seen the lengths and the measures used by law enforcement that were needed in January and December at this property.
“We have yet to use tear gas on a property or on a business to get suspects into custody,” said Agee. “We are dealing with folks who have been found on this property who have committed the most violent acts, and that’s murder.”
On Friday, February 16, there will be a hearing with the property owner to see if anything will go beyond this temporary injunction.
In a news release, Agee said in the future, their office will not hesitate to close properties under the law that disrupt the peaceful quality of life for the people they serve.
