Jackson Police Chief talks crime, statistics at Exchange Club meeting

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Exchange Club welcomed a guest speaker Tuesday.

Jackson Police Department Chief Thom Corley says statistics of crime in the city in aggravated assault and robbery cases have risen since last year.

He spoke of three main pillars of the department and the external areas of focus for 2024.

Some of these include traffic safety and enforcement initiatives, as well as technology advancements for the department.

Corley says their focus is on community interaction and programs that work with juveniles.

“Part of that is reaching the youth,” Corley said. “Because like I said, we are seeing more and more, and it’s across the country that it’s juveniles 14-18 that are involved in these violent offenses.”

He also says JPD adheres to constitutional rights of individuals when it comes to policing.

“We have to consider the value of life outweighs arrest when lives are in danger, we have to be able to act when we need to,” Corley said.

The Exchange Club meeting was held at the DoubleTree hotel in Jackson.
