Madison County residents head to the polls for early voting
JACKSON, Tenn.– Early voting for Madison County residents began Wednesday for the presidential preference and county primaries.
“On the ballot is your presidential candidates that go on in November and we have a county primary that has Assessor of Property, School Board seats, constable, and the County Commission District 10,” said Lori Lott, Administrator of Elections for Madison County.
Lott says early voting always begins 20 days before election day, unless that day starts on a Sunday. This year , it will last from February 14th to the 27th. Voting will be closed on February 19th for Presidents Day.
“March the fifth will be Election Day and we will start counting that evening,” said Lott.
Early voting is located at the Madison County Agricultural Services building. Which is located at 309 North Parkway, where it has been in previous years. As for Election Day, there have been changes to precinct voting locations.
“There are several new precincts this time. We have gotten out of all schools, so if people were voting in a school and they do not have a card, or they were not sent a card by mistake, they do need to find out where they’re supposed to vote because no schools are precincts any longer,” explained Lott.
Lott tells us the change was made for the safety of the students. A lot of the new voting precincts are at fire stations, community halls, churches, and other locations. It is very important this election year to know where your new voting location is. To learn this information, call the Madison County Election Commission at (731)660-1796. Early voting hours are 9 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon Monday through Friday and 9 in the morning to noon on Saturday.
