Multiple songwriters across the Volunteer State participate in a competition to gain exposure
JACKSON, Tenn.– Songwriters across the state were invited to participate in a preliminary round of the Tennessee Songwriters Week competition. One of the preliminary competitions for the qualifying round for Jackson was held at the Tennessee Legends of Music Museum in Downtown Jackson.
Of 16 contestants that competed, the first place winner was Jackson native, Izzy Arthurs and in second place was Jackson native, Ben Colling.
For the second round of competition, the pair played at Memphis’ Lafayette Music Room. Arthurs, also placed first in Memphis and Colling placed second. We spoke to Arthurs to hear her reactions to winning the second round of the contest.
“It’s been so great. The support has been like unlike anything I could of ever imagined,” said Izzy Arthurs.
Lori Nunnery, CEO of Visit Jackson, TN, says because Arthurs placed first in Memphis, she will continue in the competition.
“Izzy gets to move on to compete at the Bluebird in Nashville, Tennessee for a chance at winning the overall statewide competition for a songwriter,” said Nunnery.
“Just really excited to get to play where so many people have gotten to, it’s an honor really,” said Arthurs.
Arthurs will perform and compete against five others at the Bluebird on Sunday, March 24. She will join the ranks of other great artists who once played at the Bluebird such as Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Kris Kristofferson, and many more.
Among other prizes, the winner of the competition will most importantly receive exposure for their abilities in singing and songwriting.
