National Love Your Pet Day: Local animal rescue shares health tips, foster info

PINSON, Tenn. — It is National Love Your Pet Day, and we wanted to talk about animal rescue centers and learn more about them.

Funny Farm Rescue Ranch is in Pinson. Jennifer McBride, the president of the rescue, has been involved since 2006.

They are able to foster dogs and cats and make sure they are healthy before they are hopefully adopted. McBride tells us more.

“Yeah we’re a network of foster homes, we take in all these animals from all different situations and then we fully vet them,” McBride said. “They get vaccines, they get spayed or neutered. They get heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention, de-wormer. If they are heartworm positive or have any kind of diseases or illnesses, they get treated for those.”

McBride says shelters are always busy with many animals. Keeping your pets and taking care of them is always the best option, however, she has more information on how to help the issue.

“That’s what probably keeps us the busiest, is people that did not spay and neuter and have these accidental litters,” said McBride. “Then you have six to twelve puppies or kittens that all need homes. They are coming into a system that is already completely overwhelmed.”

Food donations and other materials are always needed. However, McBride talks about another way you can help out if you are able to.

“Most rescues are always in need of foster homes. All that is, is that you agree to take an animal in temporarily. We provide all of the vetting that the animal needs. If you need help providing food, we can even do that. But in order to save these animals, we have to have foster homes,” McBride said.

McBride also says that it is always important to get your pet microchipped. If your pet gets lost, this is a very easy way for someone to return them to you.
