Police officers interact with local students in Officer Mentorship event
JACKSON, Tenn.–Local students had a chance to interact with Jackson police officers in a unique way.
Monday afternoon, a group of officers visited Jackson Central-Merry Early College High participating in a mentorship event.
Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley made a brief introduction and Officer Cozart made a presentation to these students as other officers made food for the students to enjoy including steaks.
Organizers say this program can have a positive impact on local students .
“So this program is a collaboration between Early College High , the administration and the United Way. And then it’s heavily supported by folks like the Jackson Police Department, the Fire Department and other leaders in our community,” said Mark Cancia, Director of Community and School Engagement with the United Way of West Tennessee.
“Our officers are very excited to have this opportunity to engage with the scholars. They’re learning today, they’re taking tips, they’re getting knowledge and it’s good for out officers to be outside of their uniform, interacting with these scholars,” said Stephanie Graham, Public Information Officer with the Jackson Police Department.
Organizers of the event say they’re looking forward to having more events like this one for the students in the future.
