Winners announced for the 2024 Hendrix Scholarship Competition at Bethel University

PRESS RELEASE FROM BETHEL UNIVERSITY:

McKenzie – February 26, 2024 – Bethel University is thrilled to announce the winners of the  Hendrix Scholarship Competition. After a rigorous selection process, Jayden Hendricks  from Cottontown, TN, and Lauryn Russell from Paris, TN, have emerged as the recipients  of this esteemed scholarship.  

The Hendrix Scholarship Competition, an annual two-day event held during the spring  semester, attracts high-achieving high school seniors from across the region.  Participants undergo a series of assessments including an essay, academic exam, and  interview. The competition is designed to recognize and reward exceptional academic  and extracurricular achievements, as well as leadership potential.  

Jayden Hendricks, son of Derek and Catherine Hendricks, and a student at White House  High School, emerged victorious as the winner of the competition. Jayden plans to  major in Music Education and will participate in Renaissance Theatre. He is an active  member of Temple Baptist Church and has demonstrated outstanding academic  excellence and commitment to his community.  

The runner-up position was awarded to Lauryn Russell, daughter of Ralph and Patsy  Russell, from Henry Co. High School in Paris, TN. Lauryn, who will major in Mathematics  and participate in Renaissance Vocal, has shown exemplary dedication to her studies  and extracurricular activities. She is an active member of Tennessee Valley Community  Church and looks forward to joining the Bethel community.  

“We congratulate Jayden Hendricks and Lauryn Russell on their outstanding  achievements and selection as recipients of the Hendrix Scholarship,” said Dr. Bob  Watkins, President of Bethel University. “We are thrilled to welcome them to our  community and look forward to supporting their academic journeys.”  

Both Jayden and Lauryn have been awarded significant scholarship packages, with  Jayden receiving full tuition, room, and board, and Lauren receiving full tuition. To  maintain their scholarships, they must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.6. Additionally, all  participants in the competition will be considered for other academic scholarships  offered by Bethel University.
