Parsons restaurant shares story of how faith has kept their doors open
PARSONS, Tenn. — One local restaurant shares their story of how faith has kept their doors open.
A family owned restaurant in Parsons, TN has kept their doors open on faith alone for the past two years.
Jaqueline Fisher named this restaurant: Mammies Southern Cafe, after her late grandma.
“She taught me how to cook and I love cooking. I actually, like I said, gave up my career of nursing to open this place. I loved being a nurse, but after Covid I didn’t feel like my heart was in it anymore,” Fisher said.
After 20 years of being a nurse, Fisher was inspired from a Facebook post that was asking for restaurants to help people in their community.
“I need some local restaurants to do this. And I read it and I thought, ‘Wow, let’s do this,’ because I love to cook and I love to feed people, and if people can’t afford to eat good food, I don’t care, I still want them to get good homemade food,” Fisher said.
From chairs and tables, to kitchen appliances, and even decor, their store has been donated by their community. Her husband and even strangers from the community have helped her.
“And he’s like ‘my kids would love to put puzzles together’, well, then the local Decatur County senior citizens there were like we will put you some puzzles together,” said Fisher.
Fisher currently caters for the community as well as her church with the help of her husband. She also helps others who can’t afford to eat.
“So he built me a box and he put this food [in it], and we put this box on the front porch, and it has these tickets in there, and you come in here and you grab a ticket if you don’t have money,” said Said Fisher.
Fisher’s goal is to continue to keep her business open and to serve her community in Parsons.
Currently, Fisher is the main cook and baker for her restaurant, and hopes her community will help her business.
Mammie’s Southern Café is located at 537 North Florida Avenue in Parsons.
