Ways to protect kids when exploring online apps
JACKSON, Tenn. — A child’s safety is protected in various ways, and one way that Dr. Steve Webb is bringing awareness to is online.
Dr. Webb is the founder of Safe School Systems, and he finds passion in helping parents and guardians stay informed on how to provide a safe place for children while venturing online. Some of the tips he mentioned were: educating yourself about the dangers social media could pose to children, communicating with them, and having strong passwords.
He also mentioned to be aware of apps that a minor downloads and researching the app prior to download. One particular type of app to avoid are called vault applications, which are apps that hide other applications.
“Talk to them about responsible use of social media and how you can use it, and how you should be looking for when someone’s trying to make some type of a predatory move toward you,” said Webb.
Dr. Webb also shared that children from ages 5-10 shouldn’t have social medias of their own.
