JMCSS student arrested following social media threat to JCM High

MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MAKES ARREST FOLLOWING SOCIAL MEDIA THREAT
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the State of Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, took decisive action in response to a reported threat of mass violence targeting Jackson Central Merry High School.
On February 27, 2024, the School Resource Officer and Criminal Investigation Divisions were alerted to a concerning post on the Instagram social media platform. The post indicated a potential threat of mass violence through shooting and explosives at Jackson Central Merry High School in Jackson, Tennessee.
Without hesitation, law enforcement personnel mobilized resources and swiftly dispatched teams to investigate the threat. Through investigation, a suspect was developed and a thorough search of the suspect’s residence was conducted to neutralize any potential danger. Investigators recovered a loaded handgun along with ammunition from the suspects residence.
Following the investigation led by the Criminal Investigations and School Resource Officer Divisions of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a suspect has been identified as a 15-year-old male juvenile enrolled in the Jackson-Madison County School System. The suspect has been arrested and is facing charges in accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated TCA § 39-16-517 “Threats of Mass Violence.”
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes its firm commitment to treating all threats seriously and sends a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
