Local mother and daughter share unique Leap Day birthday

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Mother and daughter, Katie and Anniston Hay, both share something special when it comes to leap year.
Their birthdays just so happen to fall on February 29th.
Being that Leap Day only appears on the calendar every four years, Katie says that her and her daughter still make the best of it every year.
“February 28th, we usually have it with our family if we can get everybody together and then we might throw her a birthday party like March 22nd on a Saturday that everybody can get together so we kinda just get to pick and choose when we want to have a birthday,” explained Katie Hay.
Katie also says that her daughter, Anniston celebrated her special day recently.
“She had a big birthday party last weekend and it was her first slumber party, so the whole house was decorated. We had a dance room upstairs. We had a lady to come over and decorate her bedroom, nd the little tents that they can sleep in,” shared Katie.
The unique birth date doesn’t seem to bother Anniston, and she says her friends find her birthday to be very interesting.
“They’re like, so how old are you actually and then I’ll be like I’m three and then they always think I’m joking because I’m so tall for my age and stuff. And they’re like, you’re three, no way. And then I’ll have to go in and explain it. I’ll be like well my birthday comes around every four years,” shared Anniston Hay.
Anniston has only seen her birthday on the calendar three years out of her life, while her mother Katie has only seen her’s for eight years out of her thirty-two years of life.
