Faith meets business: university hosts luncheon
JACKSON, Tenn. — One event proves you can have faith while working in the marketplace.
Union University’s McAfee School of Business hosted the Faith in The Marketplace Luncheon.
We spoke to Coleen Trent, Associate Professor of Economics at Union, who stated that this is an annual event.
“The purpose of the event is to bring in a guest speaker who has had a very successful life in business but who has also been highly dedicated to their faith,” said Trent.
Trent stated that this is something amazing for all to see and know about.
“It’s really a source of information for our students, our faculty and the community,” said Trent.
She wants everyone to know the true essence of being a business person.
“Often, business is viewed as something that’s all about greed and profit and people often don’t realize that really business is a great way for us to steward god’s resources,” said Trent.
Trent stated that in everything we do, we should always include god at the center of it.
“He calls us to use our talents and gifts and multiply them and them give back to him and that’s exactly what our guest speaker here today has done,” said Trent.
Alan Barnhart, CEO of Barnhart Crane and Rigging, spoke to about 300 participants in the luncheon.
He encouraged them to avoid getting tied up in money even as their businesses grow.
“He gave away half of his company back to Christian purposes and was able to just be a wonderful steward of god’s resources in that way,” said Trent.
Trent says they also wanted to thank their sponsor Centennial Bank for being a great supporter of this event.
