Volunteers help make improvements at a local state park

PINSON, Tenn.—Staff and volunteers help to make needed improvements at one local park.

Today, Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park invited volunteers to participate in its Weed Wrangle event.

Volunteers 15-years-old and up were invited to participate in the event which took place from 9 this morning until noon.

The event was created to help in the removal of invasive weeds on and around the trails in the park and also help to relocate one the park’s original trails.

The original site was causing not only erosional concerns but a possibility for the desecration of hallowed grounds.

The new trail will be safely relocated a few feet away in a more suitable area.

“We remove those invasive species out of the park setting, so hopefully we can reincorporate our native species back into the park,” said Dedra Ekberg, Park Ranger, Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park.

The park’s next event is a Spring Hike scheduled for March 23.
