Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority chapter marks 85 Years in Jackson with awards ceremony.

JACKSON, Tenn. — One organization is celebrating 85 years of being a part of the Hub City community

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Gamma Alpha Omega Chapter, celebrated 85 years of being apart of the Jackson community.

Their chapter celebrated this accomplishment by having an inaugural award ceremony for current members.

They were charted by four women and those four women now have awards named in their honor.

Jackson Mayor, Scott Conger, was also able to read a proclamation to these ladies marking their success.

Current President of the Gamma Alpha Omega chapter, Monique Merriweather, shares more on this momentous occasion.

“We stand on the shoulders of those women 85 years ago we’re still standing here. We’re still strong, strong as ever and we love what we do. We love our sorority we love serving others and its all about sisterhood so today we get to recognize 4 amazing individuals that really speak to the core values of who we are as alpha kappa alpha women,” said Merriweather.

These ladies planted a tree at Lane College to honor the life of their oldest living chapter member.
