Kirkland Cancer Center hosts lunch and learn

JACKSON, Tenn. — March is colorectal cancer awareness month and one local event celebrated through food.

The Kirkland Cancer Center had a Taste the Colors lunch and learn from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. today.
Hosted at the lift wellness center, attendees heard from a registered dietitian and enjoyed leafy vegetables, strawberry salad and a grilled chicken spinach wrap for protein.
Foods provide fido nutrients to help prevent certain cancers.

“55% of colorectal cancer is actually diagnosed from unhealthy eating habits and so that’s one of the reasons that we’re doing this today is because we want people to realize that unhealthy eating and physical inactivity do play a huge role in colorectal cancer,” said Elizabeth Newman, Marketing and Community Outreach Manager for KCC.

Other risk factors include smoking, alcohol and family history. The recommended age for colonoscopy screening is 45.
