Mother and son duo wins local election

JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s the first time ever, mother and son duo, Glen and Debbie Gaugh, secure their positions for future general elections.

Glen Gaugh won the Republican nomination for District 2, while incumbent Debbie Gaugh won her District 3 seat for another term since she is running unopposed in the general election.

Debbie recalls when her son told her he was running for school board in his district, and she told him this.

“You need to pray about it and if that’s what you feel you need to do then go for it,” said Debbie.

Both mother and son were raised in Beech Bluff and told us they are passionate about the current and future education of children.

“I do truly believe that education among other issues that people can and should be concerned about is one where we stand to be able to come together regardless of our viewpoints and find something that’s simply put works for the most number of students and again provides an excellent option for the families of our county,” said Glen.

The Gaughs both spoke about their visions for the future and community engagement.

“I’m taking any suggestions anyone has on what we can to to get the parents and the communities back engaged like they used to be,” said Debbie.

Glen spoke of more transparency when it comes to school board meetings and also how to involve the community and parents more.

“We prepare students to be citizens in the United States and to be contributors to our society in more ways than just earning a paycheck,” said Glen.

Debbie says she is extremely humbled by the support her district has shown her, and Glen shares that he looks forward to having more discussions with concerned families throughout the rest of the campaign.
