Jackson’s influential women honored in city hall celebration

JACKSON, Tenn. — In celebration of Women’s History Month and today being International Women’s Day, 31 Influential Women of Jackson were recognized at city hall today.

This marks the 4th year International Women’s day has been recognized and supported by the city of Jackson.

Mayor Scott conger kicked off the celebration and introduced guest speaker, Pastor Rhonda Reed Pettigrew, who gave a powerful and inspiring speech to honor all women.

“Our city would not be where it is today without the driving force of powerful and influential women in our city,” said Pettigrew.

Some share how it feels to be recognized as an influential woman in the community.

“I feel very honored…when I got the email I was like ‘uh what does this mean’ and I read through it and I was like ‘oh wow really?!’ So, it was quite an honor,” said Anita Tucker, Principal for South Side High School.

Each woman was presented with a certificate and their name was displayed on the 2024 recognition board.

Following the ceremony was a reception in the Ben Langford Room, catered by Lane College, and each of the women received a gift bag to take home.
