UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies in South Highland wreck
UPDATE (3/12/24): PRESS RELEASE FROM THE JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT:
On March 11, 2024, at approximately 6:53 p.m., Jackson Police officers responded to a report of a crash involving a semi and a motorcycle. When officers and emergency personnel arrived, the rider of the motorcycle was determined to be deceased. The initial investigation revealed that the semi was leaving the area of Lowes and was making a left turn when it was struck in the rear tandem axles by the motorcycle. Evidence collected from the scene and neighboring businesses indicates that the speed of the motorcycle was a contributing factor in the collision. However, the investigation into this traffic incident is ongoing.
The City of Jackson Police Department expresses its deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased. At this time, no further information will be released.
JACKSON, Tenn. — A dramatic collision unfolded on Highway 45 South Highland around 7:30 p.m. today.
According to a post by the Jackson Police Department on the Atlas One app, there was a severe motor vehicle accident on South Highland.
When our news crew arrived at the scene, they found that the wreck involved a motorcycle and a semi-truck.
Police, fire, and EMS were working on the scene and put up tarps to block line of sight of the wreck.
Approximately 30 minutes after our arrival at the scene, emergency services used a stretcher to remove what appeared to be an individual inside a black body bag from the wreckage.
The individual was placed in an ambulance.
Later, they removed the wreckage of the motorcycle from underneath the rear tires of the semi-truck’s trailer.
The north and southbound lanes of the road were blocked off during this process.
At this time, there is no confirmation of injuries from official sources.
