Mid-west Tennessee American Red Cross seeks donations to aid communities in crisis

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Mid-west Tennessee chapter of the American Red Cross is asking for donation of time and money.

“Come join our team as a volunteer and be willing to go online to redcross.org and look at those opportunities to serve, but primarily, it’s helping to respond to those local disasters so that we can be that helping hand to some of their neighbors and fellow community residents,” said Executive Director for the Mid-west chapter, David Hicks.

Their chapter aids over 10 counties where families may be affected by fires, floods, and tornadoes.

During this they provide money, mental health services to those affected, and teddy bears to children.

“We ask people in the community to consider going to www.redcross.org and choosing the donate opportunity that money stays local and goes directly to our services,” said Hicks.

March 27 is red cross giving day where donations can help members of the community.

“Often times they do a matching opportunity there will be a local industry or company that will match up to a certain amount so you’re giving on that day sometimes has double the impact,” said Hicks.

If you are unable to give monetarily, they are also accepting volunteers.

“A lot of our volunteer opportunities here involve responding to house fire setting up smoke alarms just trying to make sure that people are prepared in the case of a house fire,” said Volunteer Engagement Specialist for the Mid-west chapter, Sarah Doughty.

The Midwest chapter also helps in serving families who are in armed forces.

On May 1st, they’ll also have a heroes lunch that will highlight their volunteers.
