Bethel’s Shooting Action team earns 6 national titles
MCKENZIE, Tenn. — Bethel University’s Shooting Action team captured six national titles in Talladega.
It was a weekend full of non-stop competition for the Wildcats as they faced some tough opponents. Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, and Florida State are just a few examples.
Kaleb Klein, a freshman for the Wildcats, explains to us a little bit about the competitions.
“It’s all about time,” Klein said. “We have a timer that beeps, and then our string starts. We shoot our five targets as fast as we can, while hitting them. We do that five times and that is our stage. We shoot four stages.”
In order to dominate as much as the Wildcats did, it not only takes talent, but also lots of practice. Freshman Brice Jones tells us a bit about that.
“We practice at the Carroll County Gun Club. We try to go out there at least twice a week, sometimes more,” said Jones. “Some things we work on are the different stages that the SASP offers and just some mechanics.”
Included in their six national titles were two major trophies that they got to bring back to campus. Freshman Alyson Battreall tells us a little bit about what these are.
“They’re two traveling trophies. One is the fastest pistol team out of everyone, and the other is the fastest rifle team,” Battreall said. “So on the side there is an engraving part for us to put our name. Next year when we go back to nationals, we will return it and have to fight for it again.”
And this is a very young team, so they are hopeful to hold onto their titles, and add many more in the future.
Along with the six national titles, Bethel took home many individual titles as well.
