Jackson’s seniors take aim in first annual cornhole tournament
JACKSON, Tenn — A popular game brought community and competition to seniors today.

Jackson’s Recreation and Parks Department’s first annual cornhole tournament was held today from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Hosted at the South Jackson Community Center, partners competed for best 2 out of 3 with awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

For those 50 and older who missed this event, the parks and rec department hosts cornhole throughout the year on Mondays and Fridays.
It’s free and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Meeting to play is an opportunity to be active but also to make new friends.
“It’s not about how well you play, it’s just about getting out there and throwing that beanbag and having fun,” said Janis Butler, Event Organizer for the TN Senior Olympics, Southwest District.

Butler shared encouragement for those who are new to cornhole, stating that everyone starts as a beginner so there’s no need to be afraid.
