National Kidney Month shines light on urgent health crisis in the US
JACKSON, Tenn. — March is National Kidney Month, and there are some troubling statistics in regards to kidney health in the U.S.
Kidney disease affects an estimated 37 million people in the U.S.
In fact, kidney disease has been named by the CDC as one of the leading causes of death in the U.S.
About 85 to 100 thousand individuals are on a waitlist in dire need for a kidney.
“There’s such a shortage of kidneys that people that need a kidney to save their lives have to wait four to six years and organ procurement organizations says that about thirteen people die everyday waiting for a kidney and many get disqualified because of various health reasons,” said Atul Agnihotri, CEO of Kidneys for Communities.
