Jackson Christian students soar into service

JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s the week after spring break at one school and students have returned with the passion to impact others.

Jackson Christian School has entered into their Flight Week, and they have provided a place for both students and the community to get involved in service.

Luke Guard, the Director of Spiritual Life at JCS, tells us who will be benefiting from these sessions.

“Set aside classroom hours, some academic time, to serve our community both near and far,” Guard said. “And so this year, we’re partnering, with Skyline Church of Christ and Tacos For Life. And the two groups that we’re mainly focused on this year are Scarlet Rope Project here in town, and Feed My Starving Children.”

“They are an organization, nonprofit Christian, that helps pack food and meals for people in need,” said JCS junior Morgan Smith.

Smith says she was involved last year as well, for the first time that JCS became involved with FMSC.

“I learned that a little bit goes a long way. I mean, we’re in our little group and even if it’s just scooping some a cup of rice into a bag like everybody’s putting in, you know, effort and it’s all going into, like, to help somebody,” Smith said. “It’s like just something so little is able to help people in need, and that’s really awesome.”

“In total, we have eight sessions. But what we’re shooting for is around 220 boxes a session. Last year, we packed over 380,000 meals,” Guard said.

They shared that amount of meals equals 982 kids who were fed for a year.

“So this year, we’re trying to beat that goal,” Guard said. “We’re trying to pack at least over 381, I think it is, and we hope to obliterate that.”

The students were hyped up to help with the cause.

And from the music, to shouting for more supplies, you could tell the kids not only were enjoying helping their neighbors around the world, but also learning outside the classroom.

The community is also invited to come and get involved in the after school sessions, Thursday from 3:15-5:15 p.m. Click here for information on registering.
