Senator Blackburn observes Texas border security amid tensions
JACKSON, Tenn. — Senator Marsha Blackburn visited Texas’ southern border on March 21st amid what she says is a “sovereignty battle” between the Biden administration and Texas concerning the enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws.
Texas, believing the federal government not to be enforcing immigration laws, decided to take it upon themselves with Operation Lonestar.
“With buoys in the river, with containers on the river bank, they have done that, and their numbers have dramatically decreased,” said Senator Marsh Blackburn.
The senator says this is proof that physical barriers work.
“What you’ve seen is that people are moving toward Arizona, California, to pass into the U.S., and Texas is aggressively working to secure that border. They are spending billions of dollars,” said Blackburn.
During Senator Blackburn’s stay in Eagle Pass, she says she spoke with state law and border enforcement, local law enforcement, ranchers, business owners, farmers, and more.
“What a good opportunity to see what is and is not working,” said Blackburn.
Blackburn is no stranger to showing interest in border security.
She most recently sponsored legislation in hopes to limit the amount of illegal immigration through the southern border.
“My Container Act, which allows local and state governments, they can move forward and actually construct temporary barriers to protect their areas,” said Blackburn.
Senator Blackburn is also sponsoring the Clear Act, which allows local law enforcement to apprehend, detain, and deport illegal aliens that commit a crime.
It also denies federal funding to cities that do not comply with federal immigration law.
