Local church brings Holy Week alive with live reenactment
JACKSON, Tenn. — A local church celebrates Holy Week with a live reenactment of the period before the death of Jesus.
More than two hundred families gather today at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Jackson for a live presentation of the Stations of The Cross.
This is a Catholic tradition commonly prayed during the season of lent.
“We have people that come from all over our community because its a very powerful, vivid visceral remembrance of that suffering and death that Jesus did for us,” said Fr. David Graham, Priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
There are traditionally 14 Stations of The Cross including Jesus being condemned to death, falling three times while carrying a cross and then dying on the cross.
“Very powerful remembrance of the great love that Jesus had for us and the horrible effect that sin has,” said Graham.
March 30th is Holy Saturday, a day of reflection and prayer, and when Jesus was remembered in the tomb.
That’s when it is believed Jesus rose up to heaven.
Easter Sunday masses will be held at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in English, and 1 p.m. in Spanish at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church.
