Pageant continues to help area youth
JACKSON (TN) — The Jackson (TN) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. held its 64th annual Miss Bronze West Tennessee Scholarship Pageant, crowning Nevaeh Coleman as Miss Bronze 2024, on Saturday, March 23.
The pageant awards the winner and runner-ups with scholarship money to attend a higher-education institution— supporting them in their postsecondary education.
Five ladies participated in this year’s pageant, which was open to high school seniors residing in the chapter’s service area of Haywood County, Hardeman County, Madison County, and the southern portion of State Route 420 in Gibson County.
Of the participants:
● Nevaeh Coleman was crowned Miss Bronze 2024 and Miss Congeniality
● Jewelz Walker was named 1st Runner Up
● Mariah McKinnie was named 2nd Runner Up
The pageant was founded more than six decades ago during segregation so that African American young ladies had the opportunity to compete for scholarship funds for college.
