‘Soul Food Sunday’ held in the Hub City

JACKSON, Tenn. — Food is one of the universal things that brings love and unity to the community, and that’s exactly what happened Sunday.

Mae Lou’s Café came together with Studio 615 to host a pop up Soul Food Sunday dinner.

Food such as fried chicken, fried fish, stuffed peppers, fried cabbage and macaroni and cheese were just a few options on the menu.

Carolyn Lester, the owner of Mae Lou’s, stated that this is something you don’t hear of it much in this area, but that it worked very well.

“It has been awesome. We had a great turn out. I mean it has been awesome,” Lester said. “Mae Lou’s Café is located at 565 Carriage House Drive. We’re inside the Madison Place building, so come check us out.”

Music was also performed by Daniel McClain and Joshua Emory.

Lester stated how she and Jonathan Miller, the owner of Studio 615, came up with the idea to host this event.

“Just talking and doing our research, talking to people and asking questions, a lot of people don’t cook on Easter,” Miller said. “A lot of people are looking for places, and want to do something different. Don’t want to cook, don’t want to be in the house. They want to get out so we thought it was a great idea.”

Jonathan Miller stated that he didn’t mind pushing and encouraging Lester to have this event.

“I decorated, I set up, I helped run the cash register. I did everything except for cook,” Miller said.

And he didn’t mind, simply because of the great character and attitude of Lester.

“Carolyn is a friend of mine. I’ve been knowing her for about 17, 18 years. She married my fraternity brother, my line brother. I’ve been knowing him for just as long, so I mean they’re family to me. They’re my brother and my sister, so I didn’t mind doing anything with them,” Miller said.

Miller stated that Studio 615, located on 615 South Royal Street, is an event space that you can use for many gatherings.

“Baby showers, weddings, receptions, anything of that nature, we are definitely open for those opportunities. And collabs as well with other people as well,” he said.

Miller’s daughter is also quite the business lady herself.

“If you want any parties, just come and you see the phone number out there. Just call him right up and I hope y’all have a good day,” she said.

Lester stated to be on the lookout for more collaborations between Mae Lou’s and Studio 615.
