WTDTF seizes 179lbs of marijuana, 62-year-old female arrested

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE WEST TENNESSEE DRUG TASK FORCE:

***PRESS RELEASE***

On April 5th, 2024 Agents with the 30th Judicial District out of Memphis conducted a traffic stop on I-40 in Haywood County for a traffic violation.

During the stop, the Agent developed reasonable suspicion to deploy his Canine “Jake” around the vehicle who positively alerted to the odor of narcotics.

A probable cause search of the mini-van resulted in the seizure of 179 pounds of marijuana.

Evidence recovered suggests that this was at least the 2nd trip made within just a couple of weeks and that Nashville was included as a stop on the first trip.

One 62 year old female is in custody.

Drug Task Force Director Johnie Carter says, “This seizure puts us just over 3/4 tons of drugs seized by our criminal interdiction unit this calendar year. Those drugs include psilocybin, khat, fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, codeine and marijuana.”

This case is being prosecuted by The Office of the District Attorney General, 28th Judicial District, Frederick Agee.
