Jackson residents gather at Rockabillys Stadium for viewing party

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Rockabillys Stadium invited residents to come view the eclipse while also handing out protective glasses to the first 500 observers.

President and General Manager of the Jackson Rockabillys, Dennis Bastein, had the opportunity to see the 2017 eclipse at a total 100 percent view in Illinois.

Having had that experience, he wanted to host a fun viewing party for Jackson residents.

Guests were also able to purchase lunch and snacks while waiting for the sun and moon to meet with each other.

“When we saw this one happening today we thought ‘you know what lets do something neat for the community’,” said Bastein.

The stadium played songs to fit the theme of the eclipse and guest could even try new concession items.

Although Jackson residents were not going to see the 100 percent total eclipse it was still a nice day to be outside.

“Well, this is 98 percent, and so I think God has blessed us with a day that might hold, from a cloud standpoint, so we shall see,” Lewis Brantley, First Time Viewer.

Another Jackson resident brought their work with them to enjoy this viewing.

“No, no, no, work never ends. No, so we just bring the work with us, make it a joyous event, make it a little bit fun, and keep on pushing,” said Brantley.

In 2017, Brantley wasn’t able to see the eclipse and wanted to change that.

“This is something that I might not get to see ever again. I didn’t get to see the first one so I made sure to see this one,” said Brantley.

Kids of all ages were able to watch the eclipse with their special glasses.

“Yeah when I wear those magic glasses, I see the moon,” said child viewer, Phoenix Mannen, who was accompanied by his mother Tasha Mannen.

Guests at the ballpark agreed that seeing the eclipse and witnessing the weather change was a unique experience.
