Jackson Symphony Music Academy holds Spring concert

JACKSON, Tenn. — A performance consisting of young students had local residents singing along.

The Jackson Symphony Music Academy held their annual spring concert on Sunday.

We spoke to Sherry Freeman, the Executive Director of Jackson Symphony, who said that this is the combination of the performers’ work throughout this year.

“We are excited to welcome to the stage for the first time the regional music centers from seven counties throughout West Tennessee to join with our youth orchestra, our young strings program and our children and youth choir,” Freeman said.

These children rehearsed weekly and received professional instruction.

“Ages from third grade all the way up to seniors in high school, so it’s for so many students,” Freeman said. “Even some of our young strings programs even offer some of the younger children to the stage.”

Tracey King and Doug Owens were some of the presenters of awards and scholarships to some students.

Some scholarships were by Leaders Credit Union, Kellanova and The Jackson Symphony.

Freeman said that the Symphony welcomes talented young people throughout West Tennessee, both vocal and instrumental.

“We hope that with our program, we’ll cultivate those musicians and those great young artists that want to continue their education and they’ll go on into music education or go into music as a profession,” Freeman said.

This was a free event open to all. If you missed out, you missed an extraordinary group of kids.

Donations were accepted at the door,  and all donations go to support the music education programs of The Jackson Symphony.
