JMC Library buzzes with excitement as hundreds gather for eclipse
JACKSON, Tenn. — The anticipation was high as residents prepared for the arrival of the solar eclipse.
Over 100 people gathered at the Jackson-Madison County Library to enjoy a view of the solar eclipse.
We spoke to Shayne Plunk, the Adult Services Librarian, who said that he was surprised to see such a large crowd.
“I hope that people walk away thinking like oh there’s some cool science stuff that’s related to space,” said Plunk.
Many arrived early to the library and had a little fun with their children.
“One of the big things was that we had activities and crafts to go with this and part of that is educating people about the eclipse,” said Plunk.
Children were able to create their own eclipse using chalk and markers.
As the time got closer, other residents, like James Ray, couldn’t hold their excitement.
“I’m really enjoying it but the clouds are giving us a few problems. Other than the clouds, it looks like its gonna be an amazing experience,” said Ray.
Around 2 pm, the wait was over.
The eclipse made its arrival and many were excited to see it.
One in particular was little Angel, a child in attendance of the viewing.
“I was so excited to watch it. It was so fun and when I looked at it, it looked like a half banana that was cut but skinnier,” said Angel.
The first 200 people had the opportunity to receive glasses to view the eclipse for free.
