Local nursing students undergo training in mock disaster
JACKSON, Tenn. — A mock disaster to teach nursing students emergency preparedness took place today at the Jim Moss Center for nursing, on the Jackson State Community College campus.
The goal was for senior nursing students to learn how to perform medical care in various environments and situations alongside local emergency agencies.
Ambulances, fire trucks, and police were on-scene for the event.
Students acted in many roles such as first responders, victims, bystanders, secondary triage, and on-scene management.
“It is very scary, you know, for this to actually happen but it makes me feel good knowing that I’m prepared to deal with any sort of situation. Just having this experience does help a little bit and does calm the nerves,” said James Woodruff, Nursing 220 student.
Scenarios in previous years have included explosions, tornado aftermath, active shooters and more.
