Expert advice on allergy management

JACKSON, Tenn. — Spring has sprung, and with it, allergy season is in full bloom.

1 in 4 Americans suffer from allergies.

Here are some tips to help.

Indoor and outdoor allergies require different avoidance measures.

To help outdoors allergies, take off your shoes and change clothes when you get home so you aren’t tracking pollen inside.

Also, take a shower in the afternoon or evening to avoid pollen in the bedroom.

“If you have dust mite allergies which are an indoor allergy, you want to keep the humidity level down and you want to remove any carpeting and curtains and drapes and things like that,” said Dr. Tania Elliot, Board Certified Allergist.

When it comes to treatment of symptoms, both indoor and outdoor allergies are helped with an antihistamine.
