Construction nearing end for new Jackson Animal Care Center

JACKSON, Tenn. — We have an update on a project that’s been in the works for eight years.

Announced in 2016, the new Jackson Animal Care Center facility on Conalco Drive was placed on hold in 2020, but has since resumed in construction.

Zach Polk, Purchasing Director for Jackson, has shared that the construction site for the new animal center has had workers working hard day by day.

“If you were to go out there, currently, you would see that the building is up. We currently have contractors out there working on a lot of the working site heating and air plumbing and electrical. We have the different sub contractors out there working for the different final touches on the building,” said Polk.

As of now, the projected end-date is sometime this summer, either in August or September.

“Contract times that we established was about 182 calendar days so that was back in February so, 182 days from there,” said Polk.

This new site is hoping to bring more space for animals and to provide a teaching space for animal care.

“There’s definitely going to be a lot more space, both for K-9s and felines. Whitney and her animal care crew to provide more services to the area,” said Polk.

Polk finishes by also sharing words to Whitney Owens who has worked during this transition.

“Whitney Owens is a great leader for the Animal Care Project and she is gonna be setting the tone for all of the upcoming changes, and new benefits this place will bring,” said Polk.

Polk also mentioned residents of Jackson and surrounding counties will be able to benefit from the center.
