First Ladies Luncheon sets record, hosts Grammy-nominated artist

JACKSON, Tenn. — An event was held in the Hub City where companies and organizations across West Tennessee gather to celebrate the impact of local women within the community.

United Way of West Tennessee hosts the 11th annual First Ladies Luncheon at the Jackson Fairgrounds.

This year broke a record for the amount of people who came out to support the work of the non-profit.

Anita Kay Archer, Chair of Women’s Leadership Council, and a First Lady Ambassador shares why she is so passionate about this event.

“Eleven years ago we started this. You’re not going to believe this, but my mother died the day before the first luncheon. For that reason, I’m so much more passionate because I think of her and how she encouraged me to be who I am today,” said Archer.

This year’s keynote speaker featured Valerie June, a West Tennessee native and Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter.

A unique feature this year were the diverse set of tablescapes of centerpieces, each of which were decorated based on each businesses personal taste and style.

United Way also announced the launch of Volunteer West Tennessee Hub, a new approach to coordinate volunteers with local agencies.

The event helps to establish connections among women in the community to ultimately support United Way’s mission.

“This is the time that we celebrate the incredible contributions of women across our region. That’s so incredibly important. Women play such an incredible role and vital role in our communities,” said President and CEO of United Way, Matt Marshall.
