National PST week starts, celebrates dispatchers across the nation
JACKSON, Tenn. — Today, April 18, we celebrate the heroes that are normally unseen, but are unforgettable.
It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators week.
Across the nation, thousands of personnel serve to provide communities, citizens and public safety 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Dispatchers are celebrated every year during the second week of April.
This holiday is celebrated across the United States and Canada.
We spoke to Elizabeth Bowman, a Telecommunicator at Jackson Med-Link Regional Medical Communications Center.
Bowman says that she loves what she does every day.
“911 dispatchers, you know, we’re here for the community. We love our community. That’s why we do what we do and we’re just appreciative of everyone and just bless everybody,” said Bowman.
Bowman said that one way the community can help dispatchers is to have an address ready to give them for emergencies and to remain calm while making 911 calls– be as clear as possible.
