Cookout brings community together for good food and inspiration

JACKSON, Tenn. — A pop-up cookout at Shirlene Mercer Park on Sunday had everyone pulling up with hunger and excitement.

Destiny Church International‘s W.I.N. Team held their first pop-up cookout. W.I.N. Stands for Witnessing in the Neighborhood.

Pastor Rose Bell-Cox, the overseer of the Evangelism and Outreach Team, said that their team is all about the people.

“Sharing love. Somebody just may need a hug and we’re here to offer that,” Bell-Cox said. “When we say Jesus came to seek and to save the lost, and the lost may just need a hug to get them through the day.”

Members of the W.I.N. Team were spotted praying with individuals and giving them t-shirts with positive messages on them.

“North, south, east and west, central. No matter where, we want to be a light for people. We want to share the love of Jesus with people. That’s what we’re all about,” said Cox.

This cookout even had some of your favorite grilled foods.

“We have hot dogs, we have hamburgers, chips, drinks. We have jumpers for the kids,” said ministry leader Cheryl Currie.

In the midst of all the fun and good eating, Ministry leader Denise Shead and Pastor Cox said that the message still remains the same.

“More importantly, to make sure they receive the gift of salvation, which is so freely given to us through our lord and savior Jesus Christ,” said ministry leader Denise Shead.

“We’re here to meet people where they are. No matter where they are. From the top to the bottom, that’s why we’re here,” said Cox.

About 50 people or more showed up to this event, and there was nothing but smiling faces all evening.

Although a date has not been set, the W.I.N. Team expects to take this event to every park in the city.
