Local pet rescue agency receives $12,500 grant

JACKSON, Tenn. — This rescue and adoption agency has been in the community for 20 years.

Companion Pet Rescue and Transport of West Tennessee received a $12,500 grant from Petco Love.

Grants like these provide necessary funds to help the agency save more than 2-thousand dogs a year.

Some of the few things this grant will help to fund is vaccine clinics as well as spay and neuter voucher programs.

“We work with ‘My Animal Hospital,’ which is one of the area vets and we would sell vouchers probably for $20-$25. This helps the money go further so that we can spay and neuter more animals,” said Vice President of Companion Pet Rescue, Danielle Hardee.

The agency has found that people want to get their pets fixed, but they don’t have the financial ability to do so when they have multiple pets.

They say grants like these allow them to be more supportive of the well-being of abandoned and neglected dogs

“The bottom line is we really cannot adopt enough dogs to solve the problem. We still have healthy, wonderful, and happy dogs everyday that end up at Jackson Rabies Control and Jackson Animal Care Center waiting for homes and hoping for homes. We need adopters,” said Hardee.

Companion Pet Rescue or CPR, partners with local veterinarians and shelters like Jackson Rabies Control, Union City Animal Shelter, and Jackson Animal Care Center.

Some of the puppies the agency has helped are these, a litter that was dumped at a house in a rural area.

One had been shot in the foot and required a splint while the broken bone healed.

Three puppies have been adopted so far, and the injured pup should be able to go to a new home next week.

And these, that come from a household where the family had two dogs that turned into 22 in about 18 months.

The agency has taken in the puppies and is spaying and neutering the adult dogs at no cost.

CPR also received a grant last fall to do free pet vaccines in Weakley County that were administered by volunteers and UT-Martin students.
