Motorcycle safety becomes increasingly important with fatalities on the rise

JACKSON, Tenn. — Motorcycle-related deaths are on the rise.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration‘s fatality analysis reporting system shows a 20% increase over the past 10 years.

While moto-specific wearable airbag devices have been around for years, they are finally becoming attainable for the average rider.

Like the airbag in cars, a motorcycle airbag inflates in a fraction of a second to protect the rider in the event of a crash.

The air cushion protects the rider’s spine and ribcage, and often covers the neck and collarbone area, too.

The force that would have been applied to the rider’s body is instead distributed across the airbag, effectively reducing or avoiding injury.

“Be present, make sure that you’re ready to ride. You don’t want to ride tired, nor do you want to drive a car tired for that matter. Follow the rules of the road and wear protective gear. I think there’s a lot of technological advancements in gear these days that are affordable to the rider so we think everyone should be covered from head to toe when they get out on a motorcycle,” said President of Cycle Gear, Stevan Popovich.

According to recent research, 42% of the U.S. Adult population has a loved one that regularly rides a motorcycle.
