Sun safety tips, how to identify melanomas early

JACKSON, Tenn. — With warmer weather coming, many people find themselves outside enjoying the sun, but often forget about the safety of their skin.

May is national Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

Kirkland Cancer Center wants to remind the community about a few sun safety tips if you are outdoors often.

Make sure to apply sunscreen with SPF-15 or higher every two hours, wear sunglasses and clothing that covers your skin.

Also, be sure to find shade whenever you are outside for extended periods of time.

You can also follow the ABCDE’s of melanoma to look for signs of skin cancer.

“With skin cancer, it’s the most common cancer. It’s something that is easily detected and easily treated if you catch it at the right time,” said Elizabeth Newman, Marketing and Community Outreach Manager for Kirkland Cancer Center.
