11th Annual Hatchie BirdFest underway in West Tennessee
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — The 11th Annual Hatchie BirdFest in Brownsville is going to last all weekend long.
There are many things that you are able to enjoy at this event. Director for the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center, Sonia Outlaw-Clark, tells us about them.
“It’s an opportunity for beginner birders, for experts, for novices in the field to go out on the Hatchie Refuge with guided tours and hikes and to experience the more than 200 birds that are found on the refuge at any given time,” Outlaw-Clark said.
She also mentions how this is a perfect time to get out and see these birds.
“We’re in the middle of the spring migration, so there are birds passing through that will not be here during other times of the year,” she said.
If you want to have a chance to see some birds up close, you will have that opportunity Saturday at noon.
“The Reelfoot State Park comes here with their birds of prey, so you get to see birds up close and personal,” Outlaw-Clark said. “Occasionally, they have a bald eagle, which is really exciting when it’s here.”
Even if this is something you have never done before, Outlaw-Clark says this is a great event for anyone in the family.
“It’s something you can share with any age. You know, we’ve had children 6-7 years old on the hike. All the way up to eighty. So it’s good for every age,” she said.
If it is your first time, you may want to bring binoculars if you have them, comfortable shoes, water, and insect repellant.
