Jackson partners with local non-profits for emergency training

JACKSON, Tenn. — Local non-profits, Jackson city leaders, and volunteers met to brush up on training in the event of extreme weather or other emergencies.

The emergency response training session was held at All Saints Anglican Church in northeast Jackson.

In case of a major emergency, the City of Jackson and non-profits will implement an emergency response plan to offer safety to the most vulnerable residents.

This training prepares volunteers to work with those who are unhoused during weather emergencies, as was the case when winter weather hit the area back in January, 2024.

“We recognized how important pre-planning is because there was a number of people at the table and it kinda got confusing at points, and it was hard to determine whose responsibility was what. And so trainings like this help to just east the burden on the city of Jackson and ease the burden on the non-profits to make sure that everybody is coordinating and pooling from the same pool of volunteers,” said Olivia Abernathy, Community Engagement Director for All Saints Anglican Church.
