JRPD proposes funding plan to improve parks

JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson residents are voicing their opinions regarding the city’s community parks.

This evening, April 30, a public input meeting was held at Cypress Grove Nature Park in west Jackson.

There was an 80-20 proposal by the Jackson Recreation and Parks Department for improvements to Cypress Grove Park.

The plan calls for a $490-thousand dollar maximum grant for the project, including a grant provided by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

$98-thousand dollars would come from the City of Jackson, plus overages.

The overall funding would be used to improve the boardwalk at the park and for ADA parking lot improvements.

“We do know that there are improvements needed here and so this allows the community to come out and say, ‘yes we know there needs to be improvements, we support our tax money going toward these things’,” said Christi David, Park Operations Manager for JRPD.

If approved, the funding could be made available for the project by the summer of 2025.

The next public meeting to discuss the grant proposal will be held on Thursday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at the Jackson Madison County Public Library
