Officials continue investigating cold cases that shocked West TN

JACKSON, Tenn. — From robberies to murders, the area of West Tennessee has several crimes that are still active with no leads.

Most of these are crimes you may remember.

On November 8, 2021, the Jackson Police Department responded to a shooting near Lambuth Boulevard and Westwood Avenue.

18-year-old Yasmine Humphrey was found shot and killed.

According to Chief Julian Wiser, it was discovered that there were three people in the car with Humphrey at the time of the shooting.

“Some of the occupants in the vehicle with the victim either had a gang affiliation or were gang members, so we have determined this to be a gang-related shooting,” said Chief Wiser.

The case is still active, but as of now no one has been arrested or charged in this case.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Jackson Police Department.

On May 20, 2022, 19-year-old Tyler Guy was killed on North Highland Avenue during a drive-by shooting.

A possible suspect vehicle description was developed but no other information related to the case was provided.

Tyler’s mother is hoping for answers.

“I know that I live in a community that supports each other. I just think our community is looking for a way to support each other more effectively,” said Sabrina Blue, Mother.

In May 2022, multiple robbery suspects broke the display glass inside of Kay’s Jewelers at the Old Hickory Mall.

Several witnesses stated that the suspects used hammers to steal the jewelry from the display.

On July 4, 2022, the same store was robbed again with the suspects taking approximately 20-thousand dollars worth of jewelry.

Jackson police are investigating both incidents.

Five years ago on March 25, Eduardo Cota was murdered outside of Selmer at his home on Beverly Lane.

Cota was a military veteran originally from California, who had just returned home after his shift at work.

As he walked in his home, he was shot and killed.

According to McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck, it is believed that the people waiting on Cota arrived to his residence about 17 minutes before him.

This is still an active investigation.

“It was a small four door white car. That’s about as vague as you can be. But we just found out that we have an agency that may be helping us with enhancement of that video that would lead us to better identify the make and model of the car,” said Sherriff Buck.

We’ve reached out to all law enforcement agencies involved in these crimes and there are currently no updates at this time.
