‘Royal-Tea’ party helps kick off Strawberry Fest week

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — The 86th Annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival kicked off with several events Sunday afternoon.

There was an invitational art exhibit, which allowed participants to view artwork made by various high schoolers and artists.

The Royal-Tea in Berryland at the Opera House Event Hall was another event that had mothers and daughters showing off their style while enjoying tea.

Anne Short, the President of the festival, said that this event is always a success.

“They give a little history on the tea party and the proper etiquette on how to hold your glass,” Short said.

There were even activities for the young ladies.

“They get to do a little craft at the end. And as you can see from our crowd, we have all of our queens and royalties helping them with their crafts,” said Short.

This was a ticketed event that she says sells out every year.

“We have a theme for the festival that’s ‘Eat, Drink and Be Berry,’ so that kinda goes along with the tea party, so that’s what we want you to do, is come to Humboldt, celebrate the Strawberry Festival and have a good time,” she said.

There was even an interactive story time for the children after they participated in arts and crafts.

Short said that it’s important for little girls to have this time.

“Just let them understand that there are certain things that are done certain ways,” she said. “There’s a right way and a wrong way just like everything else.”

A community gospel music night was also held Sunday evening.

The festival will continue until Saturday, May 11. Click here to see the schedule of events.
