Victim of hit and run incident speaks out, asks community for answers

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local resident shares their story about how a car accident last year has dramatically changed her life.

Elizabeth Mason started her dream job a month before her hit and run incident.

She was making her way home from working at the Jackson General hospital when a vehicle struck her.

“I was traveling down East Forest Avenue when a tan Jeep Cherokee ran a stop sign, they was coming off Martin Street,” said Mason.

The impact from the other car caused her to have a head injury which now causes seizures, she also now wears a heart monitor and is also wheelchair bound.

“I have fractures in my face I have a metal rod in my leg now in my femur, and the gas pedal nearly took my foot off actually,” said Mason.

Mason shared she remember thinking that the other driver left her for dead.

She was informed that the other driver was allegedly drinking and driving.

“I did reach out to the Madison County Police Department, which they are very familiar with the owner of the vehicle because there were other vehicles registered to them,” said Mason.

This moment has been triggering for her because she once cared for patients the way she is cared for now.

“I’ve seen what the patients were going through now I’m on the other side. I went from helping patients, caring for patients at Jackson General Hospital, to being a victim,” said Mason.

Because of Mason’s condition, she doesn’t think she’s dong enough as a mother.

“It’s been emotional for me because I can’t- I have an autistic son I take care of and I can’t- care for him. You know, like I should. Cause now I’m stuck in a wheelchair I cant even fix myself any food– it’s hard, it’s very hard on me,” said Mason.

Mason asks that if you have information to please come forward.

If you have information about the incident, contact the Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400.
