I-C.A.R.E. event offers resources to prevent overdose fatalities

JACKSON, Tenn. -- It's Fentanyl Awareness Month and one event offers prevention training and resources for those struggling with substance abuse.

The I-C.A.R.E. Event was held this evening at Lane College.

The program provides overdose prevention training, as well as testimonies from mothers of overdose victims.

The program also connects people with resource agencies for to gain insight from.

Fentanyl is fatal and poses high risk for addiction and dependence.

It’s not to be confused with the pharmaceutical narcotic used to treat severe pain.

“We’re trying to bring awareness to the community. Today is national Fentanyl Awareness Day throughout the country, and we’re just trying to bring awareness– to get information, to educate our people within the community– being able to help our community. Right now, just of today, we had a death today– someone died of an overdose today while we’re here at this meeting,” said Councilman Johnny Dodd.
