Jackson first responders honored for efforts saving newborn baby

JACKSON, Tenn. — One could call it a miracle that happened, at the hands of multiple first responders and emergency medical personnel who saved the life of a newborn baby in the City of Jackson.

On the morning of May 2, a 911 call was placed from a frantic mother who had just delivered her baby in a toilet.

The mother reported the umbilical cord was wrapped around her baby’s neck and she was not breathing.

Thanks to the efforts of Jackson Fire Department, Jackson Police Department, Jackson Central Dispatch, Jackson Med-Link, and Medical Center EMS, the infant’s life was saved.

All who had a hand in providing first class medical care to the two patients were recognized Tuesday at the Jackson City Council meeting and awarded a Mayor’s Commendation for their role in successfully reviving the newborn baby.

“Knowing that you have this newborn, it pulls on your heart strings,” said Matt Jones, Division Chief, EMS, Jackson Fire Department. “A lot of teamwork went into play with this. We just meshed well together. Everybody that was there and everyone that was involved in the call, did their job exceptionally well.”

According to Jones, the mother and baby are in the hospital and doing well.
