Madison County activates Emergency Operations Center in preparation of severe weather

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.– Leaders in Madison County have activated the Madison County Emergency Operations Center

The Emergency Operations Center, or EOC is a bunker at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport designed for various department heads to coordinate and plan in the case of severe weather.

Wednesday afternoon around 3, the EOC was activated and representatives from Madison County Fire, Jackson Fire, Jackson Police, and Madison County Sheriff’s Office; along with EMS, EMA, and representatives from the city and county street departments gathered inside the EOC to begin monitoring weather.

Madison County EMA Director Jason Moore tells us the EOC was activated as soon as a tornado watch was issued for Madison County.

“We take every storm serious but obviously the National Weather Service has bumped this up quite a bit for us. The last thing they told me is they haven’t seen this kind of activity since 2008,” said EMA Director Jason Moore.

Moore says the EOC will stay open until Tornado Watch has expired, and depending on if there’s damage afterwards.
