Jackson named among top metros of 2023
JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson just earned a high placement in a new ranking.
According to a press release from the Greater Jackson Chamber, the City tied for 8th place for Site Selection Magazine’s 2023 Top Metros. This ranking looks at communities with populations between 50,000 and 200,000.
We spoke with Mandy White, the Chief Economic Development Officer with the Greater Jackson Chamber, about what they may have been evaluating when it comes to these rankings.
“I think they were looking at your prowess and your ability to close deals, to attract companies that were looking for their next location, and really just a team atmosphere,” White said. “Somebody that they could have confidence in, could close the deal, and help them be successful.”
We asked White about the successes that Jackson has recently had in order to garner an acknowledgment such as this.
“What naturally comes to mind are our two new investments that have been announced with the Dixie Jackson facility and 6K Energy. But 80% of our jobs and investment comes from existing industries. Companies like Kellogg’s, Conagra have announced in the last couple of years,” White said.
In fact, White said the Dixie Jackson facility may start production on June 14. It was also the single largest investment in community history at $425 million.
We also talked to White about what the importance is of being successful in this area.
“Sometimes people wonder why we focus on manufacturing, and that’s because manufacturing affects the economy more than any other sector,” said White. “For every job that we bring in for manufacturing, for every dollar that’s invested in manufacturing, that’s then spread around in the entire community and really helps our small businesses grow.”
Cleveland, another city in Tennessee, was also tied for 8th in the rankings.
Jackson was also ranked in 8th place in 2022.
